ABORTION MEETING on evaluation of the Cleveland Heights abortion ordinance will be held by council's safety and health committee from 9 to 11:30a.m. Saturday, April 29, at city hall. This is a public meeting. The taw department has been studying the Heights abortion ordinance in light of recent court rulings and has delivered part of its findings to Acting City Manager Donald Barclay. Barclay said the report would not be made public before the meeting, but issues raised in the study would be discussed by the committee. The administration recently promised to review the abortion ordinance following protests from pro-life groups angered over an abortion facility moving into the Severance Medical Arts Building.
The WOMENSPACE Annual Meeting, scheduled for Thursday, May 18, will feature Anne Saunier, who so effectively chalred the IWY Conference in Houston. In addition, Yvonne Wanrow, who is now on trial for having defended herself and has become a nationally-known champion of women's right to defend themselves, will also speak. Further, the WomenSpace Outstanding Service Award will be presented. The award was established in honor of Josephine Irwin, and is presented annually to a woman who has done "outstanding work by a woman on behalf of women". Recipients of the award have been Freda Winning in 1976 and Joan Campbell In 1977. All WomenSpace members are encouraged to submit nominations. Names of nominees and a short supporting statement must be in the WomenSpace office no later than April 25.

THE FIELDS OF ELECTRONICS AND DRAFTING are two technical careers requiring two years or less of training. They are areas where available jobs are expanding almost twice as fast as the Increase in population and which have good growth potential over the projected future. Neither field requires heavy physical labor or grimy working conditions, and the starting salaries compare favorably with those of college graduates, In an age where women's salaries average only 60% of those of men, women can no longer let themselves be shut out of good paying, Interesting jobs and challenging work.
Electronic Technology Institute, an accredited technical Institute that has been training specialists for 49 years, has decided to take a more active approach to letting women know that training and jobs are there for them. They offer education in the electronics and drafting fields. Recently, Judy Rainbrook joined the sales staff to get the message out to women in the Cleveland area. Judy has developed an educational program on career opportunities for women in the fields of electronics and drafting, and will be presenting it in various community settings around Cleveland.
The next of these programs will be at the Three of Cups, on Sunday, April 30, at 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. and again at 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. The Three of Cups is located at 12814 Buckeye, Cleveland. INSURANCE HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY TO BE MARRIED? Ohio's insurance laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of marital status, but insurance companies still have not made available an automobile insurance policy which covers only one spouse. Thus it is impossible for you to walve coverage of your spouse and obtain an individual policy covering you alone. The Women's Rights Project of the Ohio Civil Liberties Union wishes to challenge this inequity. VOLUNTARY FEMALE STERILIZATION is now available at Preterm, vla an operation called Mini-Laparotomy. This is a procedure in which a woman's tubes are cut and tied to prevent her from having children. The operation can be done anytime, on an out-patient basis. The procedure takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Afterwards, the woman continues to have her monthly periods, and her femininity and desire for sexual relations are unchanged.
The fee is $400, which covers the physical exmination, laboratory tests, counseling, the Mini-Laparotomy and the two post-operative checkups, and is payable on the first visit. For appointment or additional information, call 368-1000.
SALUTE TO BLACK WOMEN. On Saturday, May 13, 1978, Club Date is planning the biggest and most exciting show ever held in the City of Cleveland. Last year, Alex Haley, Andre Lorde, the Black Family and more than $10,000 in door prizes attracted more than 5,000 women, and Club Date wants to top its own record. Ticket price is $5.00. YWCA SALUTE TO CAREER WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT will take place on May 16 at Noon at the Cleveland Plaza Hotel, Eueild and E. 12th Street. Candidates for awards will be considered on the basis of distinguished service and/or leadership in their field, and for the role model and inspiration they have been to others. CCC PROGRAM TO AID DISPLACED HOMEMAKERS became operational on March 13 and is almed at women over 35 who have devoted the majority of their lives to homemaking and who have lost their means of financial support either through death or divorce, or who have become ineligible for public assistance. The program offers counselling, aptitude testing, job skills training and placement assistance to aid these women in becoming self-sufficient. Entry into the program begins with a personal Interview conducted by one of the project coordinators.
